Winter 2013 Teacher Biographies 

Mary Seidl
Spot Tots: Bounce to the Beat (ages 4 - 5)
Mary Seidl has taught children of all ages and abilities from birth through high school for the last 25 years: first as a speech pathologist in the public schools and more recently as home school mom to four girls age 7-18 who are all involved with Spotlight.  She is excited to share her substantial experience directing young children and performing in musical productions with students at the beginning of their musical theater training. She is particularly passionate about supporting Spotlight's mission of developing character in its students.

Aurora McCoy
+Tune Town 1: Peter Pan (ages 6 - 7)
Aurora has been involved in Spotlight since 2004. She is currently at College of Lake County working towards a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She has taught/aided 7 classes in Spotlight. She has always loved teaching and theater. Aurora is very excited to help others use their talents to glorify God! Aurora likes to read, laugh, dance, and swim.

Sydney Rovik
*Dance 4 Ballet and Lyrical:  (ages 8 - 12)
Sydney is currently a Junior Music Theatre Major at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. She has been singing her whole life, got involved in musical theater at 8 years of age, and has been in 10 shows since then. Sydney got involved with Spotlight in May 2009 when Kenosha County was just beginning. Aiding the first Kenosha summer camp that June, and played in the fall and spring shows with Kenosha County, while aiding in classes both sessions (Our Gang and Musical Theater 1.) She has taught Voice and Our Gang at 3 different Kenosha summer camps and Our Gang at the first Milwaukee camp!  Intern directed for “Robin Hood” with Kenosha. Sydney see’s Spotlight as a great blessing, and hopes to continue teaching for a long time! She loves Jesus, her family, reading, and baking cookies!

Sara Tickanen
*Drama 1 for Kids: Storybook Characters (ages 8 - 12)
Sara is excited to be teaching her fourth session with Spotlight! Some of her favorite memories from high school center around involvement in drama.  Currently she teaches private piano and voice lessons, and in the past has taught cello as well. Sara has led music for three summers for VBS, (Vacation Bible School), and has been invlolved in many other areas of Children’s Ministry through the local church.

JohnWesley Brown
Musical Theater for Kids: Willy Wonka (ages 8-12)
JohnWesley Brown is a Spotlight alum and is excited now to be teaching with Spotlight.  Wesley is a recent graduate from Wheaton College where he earned a bachelor of music education with a concentration in voice. He completed his student teaching at both the high school and middle school levels. He has been singing all his life and has participated in over 20 theatrical productions, both musical theater and opera. He is currently a music teacher at a private K-8 school, teaching voice privately and singing with the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee.

Jessica Allen

Jeanne Olsen
Drama 2: Scenes and Monologues (12-18)
Jeanne Olsen has put her Elementary Education degree to use in diverse settings including church, public school, homeschool co-op and enrichment classes, makeup classes for Spotlight parents and students, and being Area Coordinator for Spotlight Kenosha's first year of classes. Jeanne has six kids, ranging from college age to kindergarten, and she's been involved with Spotlight since 2005.

Deb Kahana  
Specialty 903:  Puppetry ( ages 10-14)
Deb was “born into” the Movie Business from her father Kim Kahana, who doubled for Charles Bronson and owned karate studios with Chuck Norris.  She’s been in SAG over 40 years, was Co-President of the Screen Actors Guild WI Steering Committee, is a 6th Degree Black Belt in 5 forms and an American Red Cross CPR Instructor. She did stunts on the Titanic, America’s Most Wanted, worked for Universal, Disney and other studios.  Deb taught Stunts, Acting & Modeling with all the marketing skills since 1976, when she helped her dad open the world’s first Stunt School.

Dani Webber
Dance 9:  So you think you can dance? (ages 12 - 18)
Dani has taught for Spotlight Kenosha from the beginning!  An avid dancer, Dani teaches tap, modern and jazz in a studio as well as for Spotlight.  

Paul Brown
Voice 5 for Teens: Broadway Revue (ages 12 - 18)
Paul was trained in music at the Crane School of Music--the same school trained Renee Fleming and Stephanie Blithe. He has taught music privately and in the classroom for years and has been on stage off and on for many years.

Miriam Masey
Improv 4: Improvapalooza Prep
Miriam Masey has a BFA in Acting from The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. She is currently a member of GreenRoom Theater's improv ensemble. Recently, she taught a theatre camp at The Raue Center for the Arts, as well as assistant directed GreenRoom's production of The Sound of Music. Miriam is extremely excited to be teaching for Spotlight and can't wait to see where this new journey will take her!
