+Tune Town 3: Wizard of Oz (ages 6 - 7)
   Teacher: Savannah Martin

From the Skate Park (where kids learn balance and spacing) to the Post Office (where kids learn about 'delivering' their lines), from the Bakery (where kids 'cook' up some 'sweet' dance moves) to the Clothe-a-Torium (Hats! Wigs! Costumes galore!), this new curriculum for your 6-7 year old will be the talk of your town for months to come. An age-appropriate, learner-based curriculum, Tune Town tackles Audition Preparation, Dance, Acting, and Singing, all with pair-share ice breakers, creatively immersive group activites, and fun-blasted games. After being introudced to the wonders of Tune Town, kids will experience a Red Carpet Premiere, what its like to be a pirate on the high seas, even a trip to the rejoicifyingly green land of Oz! This age group is not eligible to audition for the session production.

+Drama 2 for Kids: Charlotte's Web (ages 8 - 12)
   Teacher: Lindsay Urbanick

Pre-requisite: 1 drama class
Take your acting skills to the next level in this challenging drama class. Build on previous experience and create authentic emotion, genuine relationships, engage in environment and build dramatic tension in scenes. Learn how to get into a character’s head and make it your own or build a character from scratch. Engage in a variety of dramatic styles from skits, plays & more. This class is a great opportunity to stop pretending and start acting!

+*Musical Theater 1 for Teens: Singin' in the Rain (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Alixx Nott

This class will help strengthen you as an actor, singer, and dancer while developing the confidence you need to succeed. We'll dive into some of your favorite musicals and tackle the numbers that you've just been dying to perform. You'll learn new techniques that will sharpen your skills, help you stand out at your next audition, and give you the confidence you need to take the spotlight.

   Teacher: Kathryn McFarland

Whether you sing in your church choir, along with Rock Band, or just in the shower, singing can be fun!  Learn how to put those pipes to use with good technique and style. In this interactive class students will learn the fundamental concepts and training of the voice. Learn proper posture and breathing techniques, phrasing and how to stay on pitch.

+Drama 3 for Kids/Teens: One Act - Beauty & The Beast (ages 10 - 14)
   Teacher: Stephanie Grady

Pre-requisite: 2 drama or musical theater classes & audition
Expand your characterization and delve deeper into the world of acting. Discover how to create a dynamic character and bring the story alive. Using improv, drama games, and open scenes, students will learn how to find a character arc, incorporate environment, make strong creative choices and use sensory recall in creative believable scenes. All will present a one act production at the end of the session using their new skills.

Specialty 706 for Teens: Theater Gymnastics (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Suzanne Reeves

Have you ever wanted to learn to walk on your hands, do a toe-touch, or a partner lift? Take your skills beyond singing and dancing in this Theater Gymnastics class. You will learn how to safely stretch, strengthen and condition your body, basic gymnastic skills, basic partner lifts, and group lifts/mounts.* (*All skills dependent on instructor’s comfort/skill level and student’s abilities)

Improv 5 for Teens: Improvapalooza (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Vanda Varnai-Garcia

Requirement to be on Improvapalooza Team; Pre-req: Improv 4: Improvapalooza Prep and Selection
This class will prepare students to compete on their area's Improvapalooza team in downtown Chicago. This class rehearses once a week during the Spring session, with continued rehearsals through the beginning of summer until departing for the Improvapalooza competition. Continue to create characters and environments, group think, accepting offers and playing off your teammates, and perfect/plan for the official games for Improvapalooza. Dance 9 for Kids/Teens: Intermediate Jazz (ages 10 - 14)
   Teacher: Joanna Paul

Pre-requisite: 2 dance classes
Alright, so you know basic dance technique but you want to spice it up a bit? Then this is the class for you!  Offered multiple times throughout the year, the focus of this class will change from session to session. We will offer specific forms of dance that you don't see every day. Irish Step Dancing, Square Dancing, Break Dancing, African Dancing, Project Dance Prep and more. Class will focus on one specific style.

Choral music has existed for centuries and is one of the best ways to enhance your ear training and knowledge of music. In this class learn to sing more advanced choral pieces ranging from Baroque choral pieces to Broadway show-stoppers to American Spirituals.

    

Specialty 906 for Teens: Human Video (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Bethany Newell

Combine music, theater, modern dance, drama, pantomime, props to creative a living, dynamic story. Similar to a live music video, students will be challenged to use their body to interpret the story in the music and create exciting stage pictures. This class will explore facial expressions, spatial relationships, meaningful gestures, interpretive dance, modern dance, artistic movements, classic mime, pantomime, and at times also use American Sign Language. This is an eclectic mix of theater performed without boundaries geared toward presenting a story in a very powerful way.

Dance 10 for Teens: Project Dance (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Joanna Paul

Pre-requisite: Enrolled in Winter 2013 Project Dance
For seasoned students, Project Dance is a 3 session progressive dance journey. Students will receive intense training in technique and raise the bar on their dance performance. The goal of PD is to elevate the quality of dance training in Spotlight by creating a community of dedicated students and teachers who want to use their talents to glorify God through the art form of various dance styles.  Students are encouraged to attend a summer Project Dance Camp offering workshops and a dance concert.

5, 6, 7, 8 It's time to get up and dance! Step up to all the basic techniques that will prepare you to take on any form of dance. Beyond the standard ballet positions you'll learn how to chasse, channe, pirouette, kick, leap, and more. Whether you want to learn Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, or Ballroom, this class will give you the foundation you’ll need to succeed.

Drama 7 for Teens: Scene Study (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Josh Hepler

Pre-requisite 3 drama classes
Challenge yourself and your acting repertoire with this scene study class. Designed to prepare students to audition & perform in a Drama 10 Production, you'll be stretched and strengthened from all angles. Immerse yourself in a acting from character analysis to physicality. Practice and perfect cold reading techniques and discover how to engage your creativity. Discover how to analyze a scene and engage your senses in performing. Rehearse and perform scenes from a variety of classic theater and modern scripts.

    

Voice 2 for Kids: Sing Like a Star! (ages 8 - 12)
   Teacher: Julie Jarosz

Pre-requisite: 1 voice class
Take your vocal expertise to the next level and explore analyzing your character and how they would deliver a song. Whether you want to perform Bubble-gum pop, sweeping ballads or country blue grass, these techniques will strengthen your voice and performances. Incorporate acting/character skills in your songs and perform pitch-perfectly at showcase.

Musical Theater 2 for Teens: '80 Hit Movie Musicals (ages 12 - 18)
   Teacher: Vanda Varnai-Garcia

Pre-requisite: 2 Classes in Dance, Drama, Voice or Musical Theater
Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind opportunity to sharpen your skills as a versatile actor, singer, and dancer. Get insight on musical theatre through the years and the differences between specific styles of shows and then showcase those differences in a variety of musical numbers and scenes. Gain new confidence, energy and emotional honesty while perfecting your performance technique. Explore solos, duets, small group scenes, and large ensemble numbers from a variety of genres.
